Frozen
The movie Frozen (2013) is a newly classic Disney movie that women and children can enjoy the funny mild humor, there’s catchy songs from the soundtrack, and the relatability.
The film is about how The Kingdom of Arandelle is cast into eternal winter by Snow Queen Elsa (played by Idina Nerzel), her sister Anna (played by Kristen Bell) joins a mountaineer named Kristoff (played by Jonathan Groff) and his trusty reindeer Sven on an adventure to break the icy spell. It’s based on two sisters separated after a small tragic incident that occurred in their early childhood and they are forced to grow apart throughout their childhood and after they have grown up, a secret is revealed and one is chosen to embrace who she is and learns that love can conquer all.
When Elsa and Anna were little girls, they built a snowman together and his name was Olaf (played by Josh Gad). After the girls have grown up, Olaf comes to life. This snowman is what made the movie so cute and funny. For example, the part when Anna and Kristoff encounter with Olaf for the first time alive, this is how the conversation goes.. Anna: “Olaf, did Elsa build you? Olaf: Yeah, why? Anna: Do you know where she is? Olaf: Yeah, why? Anna: Do you think you can show us the way? Olaf: Yeah, why? Kristoff detaches Olaf’s arm (tree branch) and plays with it. Kristoff: Does this work? (It hits him in the face) Ouch! Olaf turns toward Kristoff, grabs his arm back and in serious tone says “Stop it Sven focus!” and turns back to Anna and says “yeah, why?” Olaf is brand new to this world and didn’t understand what was going on and him saying “yeah, why?” four times makes it funnier. Another example, is the when Anna explains to Olaf what their purpose was for wanting to find Elsa. She tells him that their trying to find Elsa so they can break her curse and turn winter back into summer. Olaf tells her he always wondered what summer would be like. Kristoff says, “really? I’m guessing you don’t have much experience with heat? Olaf replies, “nope! But sometimes I like to close my eyes, and imagine what I’d be like when summer does come.” Olaf starts singing “in the summer song” and images of what he thinks it would be if it was summer for him. One specific verse he sings, “winter’s a good time to stay in and cuddle, but put me in summer and I’ll be a *pauses* happy snowman.” After he finishes singing the song Kristoff says, “I’m gonna tell him.” Anna replies, “don’t you dare!” When Olaf made that pause in the song he meant puddle. He’s so cute, although he doesn’t have a clue that he can’t last a second in heat.
Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee co- directed this Walt Disney 3D Animation Studio Production based on Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved fairy tale “The Snow Queen”. Frozen was awarded best animated feature and best original song “Let it go” by Idina Menzel . Elsa runs away from her kingdom, up into the mountains and makes herself an icy castle with her magic powers. She sings the catchy song” Let it go”
Let it go, let it go!
Can't hold it back any more.
Let it go, let it go!
Turn away and slam the door.
I don't care what they're going to say.
Let the storm rage on.
The cold never bothered me anyway.
Another popular and catchy song for kids is the “do you wanna build a snowman” by Kristen Bell. The song is sung by the character Anna transitioning from age five to fifteen years old. There are tons of Youtube broadcasting videos where you will find children worldwide posting that song of them mimicking that song. Hearing the part when 15 year old Anna starts singing, brings you back to the voice of Ariel in the movie “The Little Mermaid”.
The movie Frozen teaches a few nice modern lessons. The character Elsa is pushed to the limits and lets us know that women can be cold as ice. If you show women love, they bring you sunshine and happiness. She teaches you to be yourself and not what other people expect you to be. Those who love you will love all of you and that means secrets, flaws, and all. Because who are you to be judged; no one’s perfect. The character Anna shows that women can be heroes too, that they’re not always the damsel in distress. They can be they’re feisty -self, a real man can handle a bit of personality. The character Kristoff shows that an average Joe can treat any woman with respect like the princess she deserves to be. “Someday my prince will come” or I can give this honest and nice gentleman a chance. The character Hans of the Southern Isles shows that not all princes are truly charming. Some men aren’t always what they try to appear to be and will sweet talk to a woman, make promises they know they can’t keep and have ulterior motives. Uncover who they really are, they are quick to get rid of you. The character Sven (reindeer) shows that it’s always good to have a true friend who will talk sense into you and be real you, no holding back and encourage you to do the right thing. The character Olaf (snowman) shows us that life might be short lived so, live life looking on the bright side, find the beauty in all things even if it’s not quite for you (summer). Yes “some people” are worth melting for “while others” we have to stand firm against. Always have our friends back. Anna met prince Hans for the first time and she was naïve and thought she fell in love and they got engaged. You can’t meet someone for one day and know who they truly are; it takes years to completely find out what and who they really are inside. The movie was created to teach the importance of communication and what the lack of it really does to you and those around you. Also it teaches that love comes in different ways/form and in the movie it’s the bond and love of sisterhood.
The film “Frozen” is a classic movie along with The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty & the Beast, and The Little Mermaid. I didn’t think the theme song “Let it go” went with the story line of sacrificial love, “do you wanna build a snowman” song would have been a better theme song. I was expecting it be funnier but the humor was mild. It was nice to see a movie that didn’t play the same plot as every fairy tale story does, instead there was a twist in it and the true love was the sister instead of the prince. Overall this movie is a must see movie. Frozen. Dir. Chris Buck. Disney, 2013. .
